Phi Theta Kappa

Phi Theta Kappa (PTK)  recognizes the academic achievement of college students and provides opportunities for its members to grow as scholars and leaders. Established in 1918, Phi Theta Kappa has a presence on almost 1,300 community college campuses in 11 nations.

The RPCC Chapter’s College Project is the “RPCC Campus Vote Project”

In 2018, our Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) chapter at RPCC developed a voter engagement plan for elections as its College Project. Under the name “RPCC Campus Vote Project”, this plan involves partnerships among the various student organizations and academic departments on campus to build a coalition to coordinate efforts to increase voter registration and turnout. Our work centers on a three-tiered approach of voter registration, education, and mobilization.

The goals of the RPCC Campus Vote Project are to help students register and vote by providing information on the voting process, voter requirements, incorporating voter registration into campus activities, and reducing barriers to voting.

We will hold yearly voter registration drives every September on National Voter Registration Day. This event compliments several components of the college’s C.A.R.E. statement – a “caring” core value of connecting students with college and community resources to engage students as voters and voter advocates. This encompasses efforts to increase knowledge and develop skills students will need to engage in democracy, politics, policy making, and social action for lifelong engaged citizenship.
