RPCC is building additional steel industry-specific training centered on core competencies in steelmaking, fabrication processes, and specialized electrical and mechanical maintenance. Specialized training opportunities will be offered in the future through Steelmaking Bootcamps and post-hire training opportunities. More information will be provided in the future, when available.

Students interested in preparing for a steel industry career can begin their journey by choosing from four associate degree options at RPCC::

Students starting at one of the participating LCTC colleges should contact their college of choice for admissions information.

Any training completed prior to enrollment will be considered by RPCC's transfer articulation process if completed at a higher education institution and recorded as credit on a transcript. Other completed training or work experience may be considered for credit based on RPCC's Credit for Validated Skills/Learning and Prior Assessment (Policy 1.023)
The four pathway programs identified are designed as two-year Associate of Applied Science programs. Actual time-to-completion depends on student progress and courseload. A Steelmaking Bootcamp session will be offered upon completion of the associate degree to further steelmaking specific knowledge and skills.

Aligned pathway programs (Electrical Technology*, Industrial Maintenance-Millwright, Instrumentation Technology, and Process Technology) may be completed at any RPCC campus or instructional site where the program is offered. RPCC has also identified partner LCTC institutions where similar training is available. Steelmaking Bootcamp training programming utilizing specialized equipment designed for installation at the new RPCC Hyundai Training Center** will be available in the near future. Certain courses may require utilization of labs located at the RPCC Hyundai Training Center based on availability of associated equipment.

Yes, all four aligned pathway associate degree programs are available on the RPCC application. The RPCC Hyundai Training Center will be available in the application at a future date once necessary approvals have been secured.
It is anticipated that completers of aligned pathway associate degrees along with subsequent completion of a Steelmaking Bootcamp will be prepared for entry level roles in the steel production field. While RPCC cannot guarantee employment, the Career Success Office will be available to support employment activities as students prepare to transition from training to career.
Speciifc details about internship opportunities with Hyundai-POSCO Louisiana Steel are not currently available. However, general internship opportunities with existing business and industry partners in our region are available within each of the four aligned associate degree pathways. Construction is progressing, and we look forward to opening the doors in January of 2028*.
