Supportive Measures and Nearest Medical Facilities

Supportive Measures are helpful services provided to individuals, regardless of whether a formal complaint has been made. These services aim to assist without being disciplinary or punitive. Such measures may include

  • counseling,
  • extensions of deadlines or other course-related adjustments,
  • modifications of work or class schedules,
  • campus escort services,
  • mutual restrictions on contact between the parties,
  • changes in work or housing locations, leaves of absence,
  • and increased security and monitoring of certain areas of the campus, and other similar measures.

Any relevant and appropriate supportive measures will be discussed throughout the investigation process. It's important to note that students Do Not need to report or file a formal complaint in order to receive support from the agencies listed as supportive measures.

Sexual Assault Evidence Collection Examination

A sexual assault examination is crucial for several reasons, including the collection of evidence, treatment for potential exposure to sexually transmitted infections, and support in the case of an unwanted pregnancy. Importantly, it offers opportunities for the administration of HIV prophylaxis and pregnancy prevention measures, which can be initiated within 72 hours following the assault. Survivors also have the option to file a criminal report if they choose. If the survivor decides to submit a criminal report, the Safety Coordinator will help the survivor with reporting it to the appropriate law enforcement office so that they can provide access to the necessary sexual assault examination.

For optimal evidence preservation, the exam should ideally be completed within 84 hours of the sexual assault. However, it is still highly recommended for survivors to have a sexual assault exam completed even after the 84-hour window, as evidence can still be collected and support services can be accessed. The examination can be conducted at a hospital chosen by the survivor from the available options. Importantly, there is no time limit for forensic services, which can be provided at any time. Toxicology tests should ideally occur within 48 hours, while DNA swabs are most effective when done within 5 days following the assault.

It is crucial for survivors to feel empowered and supported during this process and to utilize the resources available to them.
