Student Government Association (SGA)

The mission of the Student Government Association (SGA) is to represent and serve all students attending River Parishes Community College. SGA strives to promote the general welfare and best interests of the College, develop a meaningful exchange of ideas between students and administration, and exercise capacity for self-government.

SGA Elections will be held

September 3rd 7:00 am-11:59 pm

Current students are eligible to vote and will be required to enter their Lola ID Number. Failure to authenticate your Lola ID number will result in a vote not counted.

Interested in running for Office?

  • Applications for SGA Officer Position opens from August 1st-August 22nd
  • Candidates will be notified if they are eligible to campaign on August 22nd
  • Once approved, campaigning will run from August 25th-September 2nd
  • Voting takes place on September 3rd from 7:00 am-11:59 pm
  • Winners will be announced on September 4th! 
  • There will be a mandatory SGA meeting for the newly elected officers on September 8th

Qualifications for SGA Officer Positions

  1. Currently enrolled full-time students
  2. Earned a minimum of 6 semester hours at RPCC (or has prior SGA experience as an Executive Officer at another Institution)
  3. 2.5 GPA
  4. Good Academic Standing

Executive Officers serve for one term (from start of August to the end of April). No member of SGA shall be able to hold the same Executive Office for more than one term, unless deemed appropriate by the SGA Advisor due to special circumstances.

Senators can be elected for more than one term with approval from the SGA Advisor.

Duties

President: 

  • Lead SGA meetings and have a presentation prepared 
  • Complete 10 hours of community outreach per semester  
  • 60% attendance of student life campus events  
  • Attend all COSBP Meetings, which may require an overnight stay 
  • Attend COSBP Washington DC Trip 
  • Attend SGA Conference  
  • If under 18, must have a signed permission slip from parent/guardian allowing travel in-state and out-of-state
  • & More

Vice President:

  • Attend COSBP meetings in the event that the president cannot attend 
  • Coordinate volunteer opportunities within the community 
  • Complete 10 hours of community outreach per semester  
  • 60% attendance of student life campus events  
  • Attend SGA Conference  
  • Attend SGA meetings
  • If under 18, must have a signed permission slip from parent/guardian allowing travel in-state
  • & More

Secretary: 

  • Prepare meeting minutes within 48 hours post-meeting 
  • Track volunteer & event hours for SGA officers and Student Ambassadors  
  • Complete 12 hours of community outreach per semester  
  • 75% attendance of student life campus events  
  • Attend SGA Conference 
  • Attend SGA meetings 
  • If under 18, must have a signed permission slip from parent/guardian allowing travel in-state
  • & More

Treasurer:

  • Provide the SGA budget amount
  • Present all funding requests
  • Complete 12 hours of community outreach per semester  
  • 75% attendance of student life campus events  
  • Attend SGA Conference 
  • Attend SGA meetings 
  • If under 18, must have a signed permission slip from parent/guardian allowing travel in-state
  • & More

Senator(s):

  • Complete 15 hours of community outreach per semester  
  • Attend 85% of student life campus events  
  • Attend SGA Conference  
  • If under 18, must have a signed permission slip from parent/guardian allowing travel in-state
  • & More

Campaign Rules

Campaigning can not begin until the student is notified that they're approved to run for office.

  • Students can not hang or post materials until they have been notified that they're approved to run for office.
  • All campaign materials & methods must be forwarded to the SGA Advisor prior to posting. Everything not approved will be discarded.
  • Candidates or representatives must not interrupt any class without permission from the instructor.
  • Candidate must take down all signage 24 hours after the close of the elections. Candidates or representatives CANNOT campaign in the computer lab. This includes posters or signs of any kind.
  • Campaigning by non-students (family members, friends, etc.) is strictly forbidden.
  • Materials shall only be placed on designated bulletin boards around campus.
  • Proof of any slander or libel by any candidate will result in immediate disqualification.
  • Any suspected violation must be reported immediately to the Dean of Students at [email protected]
