What Is an Apprenticeship?

An apprenticeship is a structured, employer-sponsored program that combines paid on-the-job training with related coursework at RPCC. Apprentices earn a wage while building the skills employers need — and gain an industry-recognized credential upon completion. Apprenticeships differ from internships in that they are longer-term, tied to a specific technical pathway, and involve a formal agreement between you, your employer, and the college.

What Is an Internship?

An internship is a short-term, supervised work experience — typically one semester — that allows you to apply classroom knowledge in a real workplace. Internships may be paid or unpaid, part-time or full-time, and are available across multiple program areas. They are one of the fastest ways to build your résumé, expand your professional network, and confirm (or redirect) your career path.
