The RPCC PET Plant offers a wide range of opportunities in the region and can train future operators, instrumentation technicians, millwrights, welders, and so many others interested in pursuing technical careers in local industry.

The PET Plant started when BASF sent a team into its massive Geismar facility to disassemble a 3-story tall working distillation unit, pack it up, and sent it to RPCC’s Gonzales campus. That unit is now the heart of the Process Technology training program, giving students life-sized operation and maintenance experience, including the ability to troubleshoot problems and various life-like scenarios that instructors can create. The company also donated a second decommissioned tower, engineering plans to assemble both structures, and assigned a project team to oversee all aspects of the design and construction of the Process Equipment Trainer.

The RPCC PET Strategic Team began with a vision to serve our partners by “Beginning with the End in Mind." The initial partners of BASF, ISC, Cajun Industries, Emerson, Performance Contractors, Lift Tech, and Zachry came together to detail what they needed to train the workforce that would be proficient and confident in their skills.

The years of meeting, planning, and revising the plant have culminated in the receipt of over $3M in donated equipment, services, supplies, and expertise. The early partners of BASF, ISC, Emerson, Cajun Industries, Performance Contractors, Lift Tech, and Rubicon have never wavered in their push to produce a first-rate training environment. Follow this site to learn more about available partnerships and training opportunities.
