Ian James, a student at River Parishes Community College (RPCC) pursuing an associate degree in Instrumentation and Electrical Technology, has been named a 2026 Chime Workforce Scholar, joining 200 students nationwide recognized for their academic achievements and pursuit of a career-focused education.
The Chime Workforce Scholarship, funded by the Chime Scholars Foundation and administered by the Phi Theta Kappa Foundation, provides each scholar with $1,000 to help cover educational expenses while completing a certificate or associate degree that prepares them to enter the workforce in a high-demand field.
For James, the scholarship comes at an important point in their journey toward becoming a skilled technician and building a more stable future for himself and his family. In addition to receiving the Chime Workforce Scholarship, James was also awarded the NUTRIEN Scholarship through the RPCC Foundation, providing additional support as he works toward completing his degree and preparing for a career in the instrumentation and electrical technology field.
“At the Chime Scholars Foundation, we believe that career and technical education opens doors to financial progress and long-term opportunity. We’re proud to support students who are working hard to gain in-demand skills and build better futures for themselves and their families,” said Jeni Izuel, president of the Chime Scholars Foundation.
“Scholarships like the Nutrien Scholarship provide meaningful support to students who are working hard to reach their educational and career goals,” said Tarie Roberson, executive director of the RPCC Foundation. “Ian’s commitment to balancing his education with the demands of working full time is a great example of the determination our students bring to their education. We are proud to support him as he works toward earning his degree and building a successful career in the instrumentation and electrical technology field.”
James balances a full-time job while attending classes at night and completing coursework online. Despite working 40 hours a week while pursuing his degree, he has consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to academic excellence and success at RPCC.
“Receiving the Chime Workforce Scholarship alongside the Nutrien Scholarship is a true honor,” said James. “Managing full-time employment while completing my studies presents real challenges, which makes this assistance extraordinarily meaningful. These awards provide crucial support as I advance my education and work toward a fulfilling profession in instrumentation and electrical technology.”
After completing his associate degree, James plans to begin a career as a skilled technician. He chose Instrumentation and Electrical Technology for its opportunities for long-term stability, continued learning and professional growth.
