River Parishes Community College (RPCC) is proud to announce that Dr. Sarina Lirette, the director of adult education and vice president of the Louisiana Association for Public, Community & Adult Education and Continuing Education (LAPCAE), has been selected as a recipient of the national scholarship grant by the Coalition on Adult Basic Education (COABE), the leading national organization dedicated to advancing the field of adult literacy.

The scholarship will support Dr. Lirette’s advanced doctoral study focused on improving adult education outcomes across Louisiana. The research centers on evidence-based mentoring and instructional practices designed to strengthen student retention, measurable skill gains, and high-quality instruction for adult learners statewide.

“Sarina’s commitment to adult education continues to transform lives across the River Region and throughout Louisiana,” stated RPCC Chancellor Quintin D. Taylor. “Her national recognition is a reflection of her impact, as well as the importance of expanding access to adult education across Louisiana.”

Dr. Lirette also emphasized the importance of continued investment in these programs to ensure long-term success for the region’s workforce.

“River Parishes Community College remains committed to expanding opportunities for adult students through high school equivalency preparation, English language instruction, workforce training, and integrated education and training pathways,” Lirette said. “Every credential earned represents an opportunity for economic mobility, career advancement, and long-term community impact.”

RPCC’s Adult Education programs help students across the region strengthen academic skills through preparation for high school equivalency credentials (HiSET), English as a Second Language (ESL) courses, digital literacy training, and Accuplacer preparation. RPCC ensures that students are equipped to pursue pathways towards higher education and career development.
