RIVER PARISHES COMMUNITY COLLEGE ANNOUNCES NEW ELECTRICAL CONCENTRATION IN ENERGY SCIENCES PROGRAM

Technical Training Center

River Parishes Community College (RPCC) is expanding its Energy Sciences offerings with the introduction of a new Electrical Concentration, designed to prepare students for high-demand careers in industrial electrical systems across the region’s growing energy and manufacturing sectors.

Set to begin in Fall 2026, the new concentration will provide students with a combination of academic instruction and hands-on training aligned with industry needs. Students will have the opportunity to earn an Associate Degree while also completing NCCER Electrical Certifications (Levels 1–4), equipping them with the technical skills and credentials needed to enter the workforce with confidence.

The Electrical Concentration curriculum will cover key areas including electrical fundamentals, wiring and installation, industrial electronics, motors and controls, and National Electrical Code (NEC) application. Through a focus on real-world learning environments, students will gain practical experience that directly translates to careers in manufacturing, chemical processing, power generation, oil and gas, and renewable energy.

“This new Electrical Concentration represents a strategic investment in both our students and the future of our region’s workforce,” said Dr. Donovan Thompson, Dean of Energy Sciences at RPCC. “By combining rigorous academic instruction with hands-on, industry-aligned training, we are creating a clear pathway for students to enter high-demand careers with the skills and credentials employers are actively seeking. Our goal is to ensure graduates are not only prepared but competitive from day one.”

The addition of this concentration builds upon RPCC’s commitment to providing workforce-aligned programs that respond to the evolving needs of industry partners throughout the River Parishes region. As industrial growth continues across South Louisiana, the demand for skilled electrical technicians remains strong, offering graduates opportunities for stable, high-wage careers close to home.

The Electrical Concentration is currently pending approval by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).

Prospective students interested in learning more about the program or joining an interest list are encouraged to contact RPCC Admissions at [email protected] or explore program offerings at www.rpcc.edu.
