Practical Nursing Applications

River Parishes Community College’s Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) program prepares students to become skilled, compassionate nurses who make a difference in their communities every day.

Practical Nursing program candidates must have Accuplacer scores to apply to the program. The minimum Accuplacer score requirements are in Figure 1.

Candidates who score within the ranges indicated in Figure 2 can participate in a FREE Accuplacer Refresher course with the RPCC Adult Education Department. Candidates who successfully complete the refresher course are then eligible to apply to the program. A letter from the Director of Adult Education indicating the complete of the Accuplacer Refresher course must be included in the nursing program application along with Accuplacer scores. Successfully completed is determined by ascertaining at least a TABE Level 4 D post-test score and score either “Prepared” or “Well-prepared” on an official practice test.

Candidates, who score below Figure 2 scores can take the free Accuplacer Refresher course but are required to retake the Accuplacer. If a candidate successfully completes the course, scoring at least TABE Level 4 D on a post-test and score either “Prepared” or “Well-prepared” on an official practice test, can take their Accuplacer test with the Adult Education Department at no cost to the candidate.

Qualifying test scores, completion of the refresher course(s), and a completed application do not guarantee enrollment into the practical nursing program. The final determination on acceptance into the practical nursing program will be based on ranking all eligible candidates and the total number of spots available in the practical nursing program.
