Re-entry students

Re-entry students who were approved for accommodations when previously enrolled at RPCC should call 225-743-8500 to schedule an appointment with the Disability Services Coordinator.  Students who have been absent for one or more regular (fall or spring) semesters will need to complete a Disability Support Services Application to reactivate accommodations and may be required to submit new documentation. Whether or not new documentation is required depends on multiple factors such as the length of the time away from the College, the date of the original documentation, nature of the disability, and the original date through which accommodations were approved. Please note that having been approved previously for accommodations does not guarantee approval of accommodations upon re-entry.

It is in the student’s best interest to schedule this appointment with the Disability Services Coordinator as early as possible. If it is determined that a student needs new documentation, then the student might find that the process of being evaluated may take a few weeks. Also, some accommodations take more time to arrange (e.g., communication facilitators, books on tape). For these reasons, it is in the students best interest to set up this appointment at least six weeks prior to the start of the semester.

For complete information about policies, procedures, and resources for students with disabilities, please see the RPCC Handbook for Students with Disabilities.

Disability Support Services Application to Reactivate Accommodations

All Other Students

Students seeking accommodations for a qualifying disability must self-identify and register with the Office of Counseling Services. To initiate the registration process, students must complete the following steps:

  1. Provide current and comprehensive documentation of the disability(disabilities).
  2. Complete a documentation cover sheet –

    Documentation Cover Sheet

Students seeking accommodations must complete all sections of this form and submit it with disability documentation. Forms submitted without documentation will not be processed.
    • Student's Contact Information

Note: For privacy reasons, all contact information entered below must be the student’s.
    • Signature

By my signature below, I certify that I have read and understand the following: An Individualized Education Plan (IEP) is NOT suitable documentation and will be returned to the student. With this cover sheet, I must provide current and comprehensive documentation of my disability that substantially limits a major life activity. Complete documentation guidelines are available in the RPCC Handbook for Students with Disabilities, available at www.rpcc.edu. Information about my disability may be shared with RPCC officials and employees for the purpose of coordinating accommodations and services. This release will serve for the duration of my enrollment at RPCC unless otherwise requested.

The above information must be submitted to:
Director of Counseling Services
River Parishes Community College
P.O. Box 310
7384 John LeBlanc Blvd.
Sorrento, La 70778

For complete information about policies, procedures, and resources for students with disabilities, please see the RPCC Handbook for Students with Disabilities.

Helpful notes regarding documentation and accommodations:

  • To ensure that documentation is both current and comprehensive, please review the documentation guidelines on pages 8-15 of the handbook.
  • While an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or 504 Plan can provide valuable information, it will not serve as documentation of a disability. Evaluation by a qualified professional with expertise in the area of your disability is required. For more information on what constitutes a “qualified professional,” please refer to the documentation guidelines on pages 8-15 of the handbook.
  • Please note that accommodations are not retroactive. Thus, students cannot receive accommodations until the Disability Services Coordinator has received and reviewed the required registration materials and made a determination as to reasonable accommodations. With this in mind, it is in a student’s best interest to submit all required materials in a timely fashion so that the College has ample time to review these materials, determine eligibility, and make necessary arrangements. For most accommodations, it is sufficient to submit these materials two weeks prior to the start of the semester. For accommodations that may take more time to arrange (e.g., communication facilitators, books on tape, etc.), at least six weeks notice should be given.
  • Documents required by RPCC’s Office of Counseling Services may not be sufficient at other colleges/universities or testing agencies.
