River Parishes Community College Associate Professor Esperanza Zenon has been named a recipient of the 2019 MERLOT Peer Reviewer Extraordinaire Award. MERLOT is an international initiative enabling faculty to integrate technology into higher education. Dr. Zenon is one of two Louisiana educators and a total of 36 honored for their contribution to the online community of faculty and institutions collaborating to increase the quantity of high-quality web-based, interactive teaching and learning materials.

Dr. Zenon is a 1984 graduate of St. Amant High. She earned a B.S. in Physics from Southern University and a commission in the Army Signal Corps. She served in active duty including a tour during Operation Desert Storm. After her return, she enrolled in Graduate studies at Wayne St. University and completed her Masters in Physics. She holds a PhD in Science/Mathematics Education from Southern University and has been on the teaching faculty RPCC since 2011.

MERLOT created the Peer Reviewer Extraordinaire award to honor the hard work and generous donation of our time, energy and enthusiasm from members like Dr. Zenon. They rely heavily on Peer Reviewers to help expand the MERLOT collection and perform the Peer Review process.

The honorees completed MERLOT GRAPE (Getting Reviewers Accustomed to the Process of Evaluation) Camp and worked with the editors to complete their reviews on a timely basis. The award-winners also completed at least 15 Peer Reviews in the past 12 months and submitted a minimum of five materials to the MERLOT collection.
