Curriculum Committee

General Statement Regarding Faculty Ownership of the Curriculum 

Under the authority of the Louisiana Board of Regents, the Board of Supervisors for the Louisiana Community and Technical College System (LCTCS), and the RPCC Office of the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, the faculty of River Parishes Community College (RPCC) has the responsibility for establishing, reviewing, maintaining, and revising the College Curriculum and assuring that it is consistent with LCTCS Board policies and the College Mission. 

Purpose of the Curriculum Committee 

The College Curriculum Committee is charged with representing the faculty at-large in the review of the existing curriculum and the evaluation of proposed curriculum changes. The Committee reports its recommendations to the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, who has the final authority to approve curriculum changes. The Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs is also responsible for ensuring that any curriculum changes are approved, as appropriate, by the LCTCS Board of Supervisors, the Louisiana Board of Regents, SACSCOC, and accurately reflected on the college’s Program Participation Agreement (PPA) with the United States Department of Education.  

Scope of Responsibilities 

The role of the Curriculum Committee is to review the existing curriculum, and evaluate and recommend changes, including but not limited to the following: 

  • Changes to Existing Courses (to include pre-requisites and co-requisites, course titles, descriptions, contact/credit hours, and course numbers) 
  • New courses 
  • Proposals for New Programs  

NOTE: A program may not be advertised, formally or informally, until approved by the RPCC Curriculum Committee, the LCTCS Board of Supervisors, the Louisiana Board of Regents, and SACSCOC (as appropriate).   

  • Termination of Programs 
  • Modifications to Existing Programs  

Membership 

The Curriculum Committee consists of the Division Coordinators, all appointed by the Chancellor. The Division Coordinators are voting members. Representatives from the Library, the Registrars’ Office, and the Financial Aid Office, as well as the SACSCOC Liaison serve ex-officio, as non-voting members.  

Meeting Dates

The Curriculum Committee will meet on the following days to consider proposals during the 2020-2021 academic year:

September 23, 2020

November 18, 2020

February 24, 2021

April 21, 2021

Submitting Proposals to the Curriculum Committee 

All proposals must be submitted to the Curriculum Committee at least 48 hours prior to the Curriculum Committee Meeting. Proposals can be emailed to the Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs.
