River Parishes Community College now boasts a print paper, newspaper, and magazine recycle program thanks to Dr. Lee Kleinpeter’s child development service-learning class. “RPCC has never had a recycling program, yet we use tons of paper,” Kleinpeter said. “My Child Development service-learning class ordered big recycle bins from SP Recycling Company, and we have purchased smaller recycle bins to give to all the employees. The students are responsible for collecting the paper, sorting it, and putting it in the proper bin. Courtney Blanchard (a student worker and member of the class) handles the shredded paper from the student services department, and she has already filled the huge bin up half way on her own.” Kleinpeter said also that her Introduction to Psychology class has been introduced to an “all-green” philosophy where everything the students do – from exams to chapter tests to assignments – is entirely on computer. “(This means) we use no paper (at all),” Kleinpeter noted.
