RPCC Welcomes New Dean of Technical Education and Workforce Development

River Parishes Community College is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Sharon Flanagan as Dean of Technical Education and Workforce Development at the RPCC-Technical Education Center (RPCC-TEC).  Dr. Sharon Flanagan began her tenure as the Dean on July 18.

Dr. Flanagan replaces outgoing Dean, Donna Seale, who retired in June.  Dr. Flanagan toured the campus on July 13 and met the faculty and staff at a reception on the RPCC-TEC campus before reporting to her first day of work this on Monday.

Dr. Flanagan has a long tenure in higher education.  She completed a B.S. in Zoology at LSU, an M.A. in Science Teaching at UNO, and a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction at LSU.

After earning her degrees, Flanagan began her career as a biology teacher at Nunez Community College in Chalmette, Louisiana.  She later served as the Dean of Business and Technology at Nunez, where she helped launch their process technology program.

After Hurricane Katrina, Dean Flanagan relocated to Baton Rouge and has served as Associate Dean and Dean of Business and Technology at BRCC.  More recently she has been Program Director for Corporate and Continuing Education at BRCC.  In this position, she worked with local business and industry to design customized training through incumbent worker grants and special contracts.  Additionally, Dr. Flanagan wrote grants and developed curricula for several programs related to environmental sciences and wildlife education.
